dance updates for Aug. 2012

WOW WOW WOW... HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN????

Have you been good and out there dancing all over the place?

I pretty much dance only at Mackinaw Vineyards... and they still have bands thru Sept.. The last 2 bands have brought in soooo many people it was hard to dance. But I think that will change...

By the way... what happened to summer weather???



Have you kept up with Ms. Edie's building getting sold and her dances cancelled (or are they?) Or that DOUBLE TROUBLE is now JUST TROUBLE.. just kidding. So many of us went to Blm EAGLES CLUB to say bye bye to Steve... but MARK carries on the torch... so keep dancing the first and third Fridays at that club.

And then about 120 singles/single couple attended the first ITOO HALL SPONSORED SINGLES DANCE in Peoria... and another dance is scheduled....

Most of us did NOT renew our MOOSE LODGE memberships at Blm location.  Duke's dances were becoming mostly country and line dancers were taking up the floor.. so many stopped going... and soooo we were told Duke's dances would be cancelled... so we didn't renew... we're waiting to hear if he's picked up another location.

I've been busy on Facebook trying to rescue dogs and cats.
Then there's trying to save HARVEST MOON DRIVE-IN THEATER in Gibson City. They need to raise a TON OF MONEY so they can upgrade.
Big fundraising event Sept 7-9th with bands and movies and food...
a 1967 Mustang will be given away!!!

Then I got involved helping the OLDE ENGLISH FAIRE at WILDLIFE PRAIRIE STATE PARK with their 2013 event. Hopefully, Margie and I can get tons of you excited to join us and Mickey and getting this event's attendance numbers UP.. they'll have KNIGHTS OF VALOUR from Disc Channel there again...

(Loxa Road is just east of Sara Bush Lincoln Heath Center). Google maps satellite view shows the facility well 11021 E. Co. Rd. 800N Charleston, IL.

Note: The Lifespan Center is promoting this as a community dance. We hope the 7pm start time is not too early for folks who work Friday.

Well, the Blo-No dancer's Tues night dance is a big success... and we're learning new dances and practicing a ton more. It's very relaxed and fun way to learn and there are several "helpers" if you need assistance.

Prairie Ballroom, and Dance Club: 3rd Sat's. 7-8PM $5/pp dance lesson with Cathy Hempstead. Ballroom Dance with wonderful Ballroom music 8-11pm. $5/pp; (Member: $3/pp). 4000 sq.ft floor. CAC dances:
1st/3rd Fridays are Salsa class with dance following.
4th Friday's are swing class with swing dance following.
$6/pp. 8:30 PM class; 9:30 PM Dance.
Children welcome as long as you keep an eye on them since the art studio is there. There is a cash bar, yes, children would be 'carded'. But they are welcome. That's great for us single parents - we get to learn to dance with our children and/or let them experience healthy ways that adults can have fun. You can buy food in the Rhythm Kitchen below and bring it up, or even bring your own food/drink (non-alcoholic) as well. Tables for groups can be reserved (so if you RSVP, we can reserve!) . Swing class has lots of room and seating I understand. Salsa pulls in a big crowd and it is standing room only if you miss the tables. Park across street or at meters on road in front. Itoo Hall each Thursday. 4909 W. Farmington Road in Peoria. Live band. 7-10 PM. $6, unless Phaze is playing, then $10. See DancingDates.com for near term listing of bands and price/time verification. Layfayette Club: 4th Fridays. I understand the floor is large, and it caters a bit to singles over 30. Google for details.

Miss Edie's Oasis: 4th Sunday's. Doors open at 6. Dance 6:30-10 PM. $10. Live Band. Some line dancing, some country music, group stationary cha-cha 1X/night. Good parking. Dance floor can get crowded; seating not a problem.

Body Fitness in Peoria has classes, open dances, and private lessons.

Judithe Rexford of Peoria Heights' Rexford Dance Studio has classes, open dances, and private lessons. All are very reasonably priced. Can dance both man's and woman's part so you don't need a couple to teach an individual. 309-682-8669.

E.Peoria Park District has ballroom dancing on 2cd and 4th Saturday at their Fond Du Lac building. 7-10PM. $5/pp. Always Live Bands. Requests taken. Just off 74, just East of the river, next to Super 8 and Monical's. Good parking. Large floor. Lots of seating.

Galesburg has a swing band and plays each month, and welcomes people to dance to their tunes. They are 3rd Thursdays,but not sure if it is summer only... And lost contact for band...

Patrick Tower

 

Much to my dismay, I'm sad to announce the loss of one of our favorite dancers, Patrick Tower.
Patrick left this world leaving behind his new wife and lots of family and tons of friends.

We will love him and miss him always.
